Florida Woman Arrested For Leaving Her Pets in Her Car
08/08/2006
By Luther Brady
A Florida woman faces multiple charges after being sited twice for leaving her pets in her hot car
Dog health can be greatly compromised by the summer heat. Leaving your dogs inside your locked car is also a very good way to cause serious damage to your dog's health and a Florida woman is feeling the heat so to speak after being arrested Sunday for doing just that.
Krista Ernst was sited twice for leaving her pets, 2 dogs and 3 cats in her locked car in direct sunlight in the parking lot of a hotel, once on Friday and again on Sunday. The cats have died, and the dogs needed hospital treatment.
It was believed that the woman was staying at the hotel, a hotel that does not allow pets, thus she was leaving her pets in her car:
"This case should remind all animal owners of the importance of not leaving animals of any kind in a vehicle during the summer months," stated Clay County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Mary Justino. "A closed car or truck can reach temperatures in excess of 120 degrees if parking in direct sunlight, as this suspect's car was."
The 2 dogs are now in the possession of animal control services.
